Tuesday, 9th March 2010 (1201 views) The Royal Canadian Mint has announced that it is extending its display of medals and coins - including a number of gold items - in Vancouver for the duration of the Winter Paralympic Games. It had originally launched the showcase for the Winter Olympics in February, which proved a success - some 110,000 people visited the pavilion in Granville Street between February 12th and 28th. The latest display will be held at the Vancouver Public Library between March 12th and 21st. It will include the gold medals being awarded to athletes taking part in both editions of this year's Games, as well as a boutique showcasing a variety of gold coins made by the Royal Canadian Mint. Ian Bennett, president and chief executive of the mint, said: "We are grateful to the Vancouver Public Library for providing the venue for the mint to extend its presence in Vancouver during the Paralympic Winter Games and we invite the public to visit the mint's exhibit." Last month, the Royal Canadian Mint marked Canada's first Olympic gold medal won at home with the launch of a special medallion containing gold nuggets and a 22-c gold C$200 Olympic commemorative coin.
