Thursday, 4th February 2010 (1652 views) A number of rare British gold coins have been sold at an auction in Derby.Hansons Auctioneers offered a collection of coins that belonged to a Derbyshire man who passed away in 2009 in its sale last month. Among these were two gold coins that sold for more than £1,000, as well as a number of Victorian sovereigns that fetched up to £150 each, according to the Matlock Mercury. Other gold items offered at the same sale included a set of four 22-c gold coins made in 2004 that eventually sold for £1,180 and several items of fine gold jewellery. "The collection was quite special for the quantity of good gold sovereigns and related gold coins," commented Charles Hanson, manager of Hansons Auctioneers. He added that hundreds of people attended the sale, explaining: "Gold is at record value at the moment and that was reflected in the price." Hansons Auctioneers will hold its antiques and collectors auction on February 17th.
