Tuesday, 3rd November 2009 (572 views) Demand for gold bullion coins soared last month, according to the latest figures from the US Mint.The organisation registered sales that either led or were close to the top of its all-time high tables, CoinNews reports. Sales of the American Buffalo one-ounce 24-c gold bullion coin - launched on October 15th after a delay of several months - reached 116,500 units by the end of the month. "No other two-week sales of the coins approaches comparison," CoinNews comments. Sales of the gold American Eagle bullion coin also took off during October, with 115,000 sold last month. More than 1.06 million of the numismatic pieces have been sold to date this year. In related news, the US Mint launched its one-ounce 2009 American Buffalo gold proof coin on October 29th. Its Buffalo coin designs are based on the original Type I Buffalo nickel created by James Earle Fraser in 1913.
