Wednesday, 29th July 2009 (3735 views) The United States Mint has announced that a new First Spouse gold coin and medal is to be unveiled next month.Honouring Julia Tyler, who served as first spouse from 1844 to 1845, the one-half ounce 24-c gold coins will be available from August 6th. The obverse side of the coin depicts a portrait image of Ms Tyler and an inscription, which reads 'In God We Trust, Liberty'. On the reverse side is a representation of the president and Ms Tyler dancing at a White House ball. Joel Iskowitz, United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program master designer, created both the obverse and reverse sides of the coin, while Don Everhart, United States Mint sculptor and engraver, sculpted the images. Some 40,000 coins and medals will be available, although there will be a ten coin per household limit until the initial sales period is over and will be adjusted according to demand. The Julia Tyler coin follows the recent release of another First Spouse gold coin and medal. The Letitia Tyler coin was launched earlier this month.
