Thursday, 23rd July 2009 (927 views) The US Mint's stand at the upcoming World's Fair of Money event will focus on the organisation's work in advancing technology for the production of gold coins and other items.On display at the event will be the mint's 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle gold coin, which has been produced using 24-c gold. Replicas of the obverse and reverse plaster casts that the US Mint used to create digital maps of the original ultra high relief design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens will also be on show. Feasibility and progression strikes and dies will additionally be available for viewing. "Our exhibit showcases the technological advances we have made to create bold, new 21st century coins and medals," Ed Moy, director of the US Mint, said. A limited number of the special gold coins will be available for purchase at the event, with visitors also able to buy other gold pieces such as various Presidential $1 and First Spouse coin products. The World's Fair of Money is organised by the American Numismatic Association and will run from August 5th to 9th at the Los Angeles Convention Centre in California. It is the largest coin show in the world.
