Wednesday, 22nd July 2009 (989 views) A hoard of Iron Age gold coins is set to go on show as part of a travelling exhibition. The coins were found at a shrine uncovered by the Hallaton Fieldwork Group in Leicestershire in 2000, with other finds including "mysterious" metal artefacts and a Roman helmet. From July 27th, the Hallaton Treasure Travelling Exhibition will showcase these discoveries across England and Wales. It is part of a bigger project which will also see a special Hallaton Treasure Gallery launched at Harborough Museum in September. "The items that were found help us paint a picture of what life was like thousands of years ago," commented Ernie White of Leicestershire County Council. "It just goes to show just how amazingly rich Leicestershire's history is." A day conference organised by Leicestershire council and the Leicestershire Museums Archaeological Fieldwork Group to explore the significance of the find at Hallaton took place at the University of Leicester last month.
