Monday, 20th July 2009 (1295 views) A number of post offices in the Indian state of Jharkhand have started to sell 24-c gold coins to customers as part of a nationwide scheme to increase the availability of the pieces to mass consumers.Through a partnership with Reliance Money, Jharkhand's postal service has begun to sell 0.5g, 1g, 5g and 8g gold coins in nine post offices across the state, the Telegraph India reports. The coins are packed in a sealed cover and come with a certificate originating in Valcambi, Switzerland. About 15 more post offices are expected to sell the coins by the autumn. "This is ... the first time in the state that such [a] service has been launched for the benefit of the customers," commented RRP Singh, chief postmaster-general of Jharkhand Circle. India Post, the country's national postal service, first announced plans to launch the gold coin sales scheme in 100 post offices across Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Gujarat last year.
