The latest coin sales figures from the US Mint have indicated that gold coins remain popular among collectors.

About 721,000 gold American Eagles have been sold this year, with 50,500 being bought this month alone, CoinNews reports.

Collectors purchased 12,000 of the coins by July 6th, rising to 18,000 two days later and 29,500 by July 13th.

Mike Unser of the news source said that sales of the gold coin "are screaming along this month", despite the rest of the coin market seeing something of a lull during the summer period.

The figures also showed that 3,605 Letitia Tyler First Spouse gold coins were sold by the US Mint during the first ten days of their availability.

"As is typical with this series and most others, the proof coin is leading," noted First Spouse Coins US.

The 24-c gold coins were launched in a mintage of 40,000 on July 2nd.
