US Mint confirms production of 2009 American BuffalosThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Monday, 13th July 2009 (1377 views) The US Mint has confirmed that it is developing a production schedule for the 2009 run of American Buffalo gold bullion coins.Coin World had previously reported that the mint was planning to eventually restrict its production of American Buffalos to the proof version of the coins aimed at collectors, Coin News stated. However, a statement on the US Mint website confirmed that the annual production of gold bullion American Buffalos is required by law and that it is working to ensure the "earliest possible release" of the coins to its authorised purchasers' network. These purchasers buy the coins direct from the mint before selling them to dealers who then market them to the public, Coin News noted. American Buffalo gold bullion coins are minted at West Point but do not come with the W-shaped mint mark that is stamped onto collector versions, the site added. Production of the 24-c American Buffalo gold coin was authorised in 2005.
