Coronet Liberty gold coins 'offer best of all worlds'The news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Friday, 10th July 2009 (2923 views) The San Francisco-produced Coronet Liberty $10 gold coins offer "the best of all worlds" for collectors and investors alike, it has been suggested.According to Paul Green of Numismatic News, the coins are the perfect example of a scenario where a collection is of both historic and financial value. Their unique history began in the 1840s, when gold was first discovered in San Francisco. Mr Green said that this discovery made the establishment of a mint a requirement and its opening in 1854 "changed the face of US gold coins forever". Throughout their history the gold coins produced by the San Francisco Mint underwent various changes and were produced in low numbers to start with, as well as eventually being distributed around the world during a period of low interest in numismatics. "Clearly, the San Francisco Coronet Head Eagles make for an interesting collection," Mr Green said. The San Francisco Mint's coin production continued uninterrupted until the 1906 earthquake, which led to a temporary halt in output. It became the treasury for disaster relief funds relating to the earthquake as it was the only financial establishment that could operate immediately after the event.
