Wednesday, 8th July 2009 (935 views) Gold coins are to be presented to some of the world's most powerful leaders at this week's G8 summit.The G8 consists of the leaders of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the UK and the US, who are meeting today (July 8th) for their annual summit in L'Aquila, Italy and will discuss the economic crisis and climate change, among other issues. Produced by the Royal Mint of Belgium on behalf of the United Future World Currency, the special edition gold coins are known as eurodollars and represent an aim to unite Europe with the US through their respective currencies. They have a value of 2,800 (£2,418) each, according to the Associated Press, and were designed by Belgian Luc Luycx. The final name and symbol for the currency will be chosen through a competition held by the United Future World Currency, in which children from 1,000 schools around the world will put forward their own ideas.
