Friday, 19th June 2009 (928 views) Proposals have been made for commemorative gold coins to be produced in recognition of the US Marshals Service.John Boozman, a member of the House of Representatives, is proposing legislation to mark the 225th anniversary of the service, which falls in 2014, the City Wire reports. If passed, the legislation would require 100,000 gold coins with a value of $5 (£3.04) to be produced by the US Treasury. "The hardworking men and women of the US Marshals Service are extremely proud of their many historical contributions over the course of this nation's history and are honoured to be recognised," said spokesman for the service Jeff Carter. Mr Boozman intends for the first $5 million from the sale of the coins to go towards preserving and maintaining the US Marshals museum. Meanwhile, the Swiss Confederation has commissioned a commemorative gold coin to mark the 100th anniversary of the Pro Patria Foundation.
