A gold coin designed to honour Letitia Tyler is to be launched in the US next month.

Mrs Tyler became first lady of the country in 1841, when her husband John Tyler assumed the presidency.

The $10 (£6) coin features her portrait on the obverse side, along with inscriptions recognising her time as first lady and the order of the presidency (10th).

An image of Mrs Tyler with her two children is on the reverse, with the three depicted at the Cedar Grove Plantation - which she ran while her husband focused on his political career.

Designed by Phebe Hemphill and Susan Gamble, the coin goes on sale on July 1st.

Other gold coins produced in the First Spouse series so far recognise Martha Washington and Abigail Adams.

Meanwhile, the City Wire reports that house of representatives member John Boozman is proposing legislation to create gold coins honouring the US Marshals Service.
