Vending machines that dispense gold coins and bars could be rolled out around the world, it has been suggested.

TG-Gold-Super-Markt introduced the first of the machines at Frankfurt Airport this week and plans are in place for 500 more to be installed across Germany.

But a spokesman for the company has told the Daily Telegraph newspaper in the UK that "worldwide interest" has already been seen.

"Gold-Super-Markt will meet the demand as soon as possible. If British or American locations are interested in Gold To Go vending machines, they can apply for a licence," he was quoted as saying.

The news source noted that investors around the world are turning to gold because of the uncertainty being caused by the economic crisis, as the precious metal stores value in times of inflation.

Earlier this week, investment banker Jens Willenbockel suggested that the gold items dispensed from the vending machines could prove to be ideal gifts for children.
