Friday, 19th June 2009 (1032 views) A gold statue has sold for the highest price in an auction of a Japanese designer's belongings.Kenzo Takada held the sale over two days this week in order to clear out his home before downsizing. Of the more than 1,000 items being offered the gold statue fetched the most, beating its estimate by selling for 108,500 (£92,000). It contributed to a total of 1.9 million, with around 75 per cent of the goods being purchased. Auctioneer Claude Aguttes told Agence France-Presse: "The diversity made it difficult as a huge number of buyers were interested." A pair of gold watches recently fetched a high price at an auction organised by Antiquorum in New York. One of the Patek Philippe timepieces was bought for more than $250,000 (£152,00), while the second raised over $130,000 in a sale that also featured a watch that had been owned by actor Steve McQueen.
