Wednesday, 17th June 2009 (1216 views) Vending machines that dispense gold have been launched in Germany.TG-Gold-Super-Markt unveiled a prototype of the Gold to Go machine at Frankfurt Airport this week. Plans are now in place to introduce them at 500 sites across the country, with train stations and airports the main hosts. Owner of the company Thomas Geissler explained that the economic climate has contributed to growing interest in the precious metal. "German investors have always preferred to hold a lot of personal wealth in gold, for historical reasons. Gold is a good thing to have in your pocket in uncertain times," he said. Meanwhile, investment banker Jens Willenbockel has suggested that the gold coins and bars dispensed from the vending machines could be good gifts for children. Earlier this week, Moneywise described the precious metal as a safe alternative to currencies, due to the financial uncertainty that is currently being seen around the world.
