Interest in gold coins is expected to grow as a result of the current state of the global economy.

According to Numismatic News, the 28th Annual MidAmerica Coin Expo is being held in the US state of Illinois next week.

Rare coins dealer Julian Leidman predicted that serious collectors will be seen, with the financial climate set to play a role in the level of interest.

"There will be over 100 dealers there, so it's a great opportunity for anyone who wants to do business. Anyone within a day's drive should consider coming," he was quoted as saying.

Greek and Roman coins will be among the pieces on offer, while US gold coins will also be on sale at the event, held in Schaumburg from June 25th to June 28th.

Main Street recently noted that buying gold coins is one way in which to protect against the threat of inflation in the current economic climate.
