Wednesday, 10th June 2009 (1438 views) A new gold coin has been issued in China ahead of the Shanghai World Expo.The event takes place in the country from May 1st to October 31st next year and the People's Bank of China has released the pieces to mark the occasion. More than 100 outlets across the country will be selling the gold coins, with China Greatwall Coins Investments also offering them to people outside China. The obverse side features the logo of the Shanghai World Expo, while its mascot - Haibao - is on the reverse. Each of the gold coins has a face value of 150 yuan (£13.41) and they measure 23mm in diameter. The Royal Mint in the UK recently launched a commemorative gold coin to count down to the London 2012 Olympics. It features the number three and is the first of a series of three, with one being introduced each year before the Games take place.
