Friday, 5th June 2009 (897 views) A gold medal that is more than 60 years old is set to go up for auction in the UK next week.Camel Auctioneers is offering the piece, which was awarded to Archie MacCauley as part of Arsenal Football Club's Charity Shield-winning squad in the 1947-48 season. The company has estimated that it is worth between £2,500 and £3,500 and it will go on sale in Midgham, near Reading, on June 9th. According to a spokesperson, the gold medal was placed at auction by a member of MacCauley's family. The player made more than 100 appearances for the club - as well as seven for the Scottish national side - and died in 1993 at the age of 77. Also taking place next week will be an auction of gold coins that were uncovered at a building site 30 years ago. The 57 pieces are thought to have been minted during the reign of James I and are to be sold individually, but are expected to fetch a total of £50,000.
