Monday, 18th May 2009 (1116 views) The 51st Texas State Coin and Currency Show attracted more than 200 coin collectors this year, with a number of rare gold pieces on display.According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, highlights of the event included an 1879 Flowing Hair 'Stella' gold coin, worth an estimated $250,000 (£165,000). The US Department of the Treasury's Bureau of Engraving and Printing attended the show in Fort Worth and displayed a number of items, including gold certificates. Running between May 15th and 17th at the Amon Carter Centre, the exhibition is the biggest of its kind in the state. A pair of 1/10th American Gold Eagle coins were donated by Heritage as prizes for a raffle held at the show's front registration desk. Meanwhile, a rare 90 per cent pure gold Dahlonega dollar dating from the American civil war was recently exhibited at the Whitman Coin and Collectibles Atlanta Expo in Georgia, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
