Thursday, 14th May 2009 (1026 views) The current market for gold coins is strong, with premiums for the precious metal remaining firm, it has been suggested.According to Numismatic News, a "large group of world gold coins from an old collection" sold in excess of estimates at the recent Central States Numismatic Society convention in Cincinnati. Writing for the news source, Harry Miller explained that "strong markets are a pleasure to deal in", with the Cincinnati sale demonstrating "strength across the board". He added that proof and mint sets of coins remain "quietly firm" and delivery time is currently consistent among the majority of wholesale suppliers. In related news, First State Depository and the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation have launched a new service in the US to provide certification for coins and packaging designed to protect the items. The proof of authenticity scheme is targeted at investors who want to purchase gold through their Individual Retirement Arrangement, particularly proof American Eagle coins.
