Thursday, 14th May 2009 (980 views) Atna Resources has restarted production at its Briggs Mine in California, with a first pour of around 300 ounces of gold in dore.Ore mining commenced at the prospect in January this year, crushing and loading started in March, while solution delivery to the leach pad took place in April. The company has completed construction of the facility at the mine and is now planning to increase gold production to 40,000 ounces per year by the end of 2009. "Our first gold pour is a major milestone in Atna's transition from an exploration company to a mid-tier gold producer," president and chief executive James Hesketh said, adding that the firm is "very pleased" with the quick restart of the mine. Drilling is continuing at the Briggs main deep zone in order to expand the reserve potential of the property. Based in Golden, Colorado, Atna Resources is a gold miner with a broad portfolio that includes the Briggs, Reward, Pinson and Columbia prospects.
