Wednesday, 18th March 2009 (1784 views) The official seal of King Gojong of Korea has been authenticated by the National Palace Museum of Korea and Cultural Heritage Administration.In the form of a turtle, the gold seal was used by the 26th king of the Josean Kingdom and was acquired by the museum in December 2008 from a collector based in the US, the Korea Times reported. The seal has been subjected to three months of careful analysis and testing in order to determine its authenticity and plans are currently underway for ministers to declare it a national treasure. Made of gold and silver and thought to date from between 1901 and 1903, the seal will be placed on display to the public as part of a new exhibition at the museum. The seal was used on official correspondence that predated the annexation of Korea by Japan in 1910 and was thought to have been destroyed by Japanese officials. Meanwhile, a rare 17th century gold and black lacquer chest made in Kyoto, Japan, is on display at the J Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles as part of a new exhibition, according to the Los Angeles Times.
