GMA Resources reports Amesmessa gold production resultsThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Tuesday, 10th March 2009 (1352 views) GMA Resources has reported that its Amesmessa mine in Algeria produced 3,037 ounces of gold in February 2009.The company stated that production dropped slightly last month but stressed that it had addressed underlying technical problems that were responsible for the shortfall. According to the firm, output fell short of a predicted 4,000 ounces of gold after deliveries of spare parts for mining equipment were delayed and it experienced difficulties with a new leach. Production in January at the Amesmessa mine exceeded expectations and GMA has insisted that output should not be negatively affected by problems in March. Douglas Perkins, GMA chief executive, said: "We will continue to fine tune the operation to maximum efficiency as we gain more experience over the next couple of months." GMA Resources holds a 52 per cent controlling stake in Enor, an operating company based in Algeria which manages the Amesmessa gold project, as part of a joint venture with Algerian state-owned oil and gas group Sonatrach.
