Monday, 2nd March 2009 (1457 views) Four members of the US House of Representatives from Kansas have proposed the creation of new commemorative gold coins that honour five-star generals.The members of the house are sponsoring a bill calling for the coins, which would depict Henry Arnold, Omar Bradley, Dwight Eisenhower, Douglas MacArthur and George Marshall, to be minted, the Topeka Capital-Journal reported. Each of the proposed coins would commemorate a general who either taught or studied at the Army Command and Staff College at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas and revenue generated by sales would go to the college's foundation. Representative Dennis Moore, a co-sponsor of the bill, stated: "These five men served their country in unforgettable ways. We can never fully show our gratitude for their service, but we can honour them." If the bill is passed, a total of 100,000 gold coins with a face value of $5 (£3.55) would be minted. Meanwhile, a giant 220lb collectable coin made by the Royal Canadian Mint in 2007 is being sold by the American Precious Metals Exchange in Edmond, Oklahoma, according to the Oklahoman.
