New gold coin celebrates Slovenian artist

A new gold coin is being minted by Slovenia to mark a centenary since the birth of one of the country's leading artists.

The collectible gold coin will feature a horse in honour of painter and graphic artist Zoran Music.

Born in 1909, Music died in 2005 and was famous for his paintings of horses in particular.

Horses by the artist will by featured on thousands of gold coins with a face value of €100 (£90) and priced at €180.

Furthermore, the 7g coin has a diameter of 24mm and 900/100 gold purity.

In a statement on website Numismatico, Tine Jurecic of the 2009 Dezelna banka Slovenije stated that the coins would be available from the beginning of February 2009.

A limited edition 22-c commemorative gold coin has been launched by the Royal Mint to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin, with 1,000 pieces being minted and sold at £525 each.
