GMA Resources has reported record gold production during January this year at the Amesmessa gold mine in southern Algeria.

The company has stated that gold production totalled 3,391 ounces last month, in excess of predictions of around 3,000 ounces.

A report from GMS Resources for December revealed that monthly production had reached a record high and was close to its estimated cash break-even for the project of 3,000 ounces per month.

The mine received a total of 395 tonnes of explosives in November and December after the Algerian Ministry of Energy and Mines instructed the state-owned explosives supplier to deliver the supplies requested for Amesmessa.

London-based GMA Resources owns a 52 per cent controlling interest in the 1,425sq km Tirek-Amesmessa gold concession, with the remaining participating interest owned by Sonatrach AVAL.

A new leach facility was recently constructed on the property by GMA that is now in operation and the firm is carrying out extensive exploration activities on the concession.
