Wednesday, 7th January 2009 (1195 views) Sierra Gold has reported that gold production has started for the new mining season following a long rainy period.The Toronto-based company has announced that the first two weeks of production during December yielded more than 11.5kg of gold. Sierra Gold has also purchased new properties in Tonkalilli, Bo and Zimmi in west Africa and defined a total of six specific target areas for production. Doug Evans, Sierra Gold chief executive, commented: "We anticipate increased gold production numbers as all six targeted areas begin producing over the next several weeks. We look forward to a very profitable year." Sierra Gold is focused on the exploration and development of gold properties in west Africa, with a focus on the Birimian greenstone belt in Sierra Leone. The firm announced in November 2008 that it had acquired a 12 mile long concession on the Manu river in the Zimmi region of Sierra Leone with an option to expand it down to the Atlantic ocean.
