Wednesday, 24th December 2008 (1579 views) The US Mint has released details of designs for 2009 First Spouse gold coins, including those honouring Anna Harrison, Letitia and Julia Tyler, Sarah Polk and Margaret Taylor.On its obverse, each First Spouse gold coin features a portrait of the first spouse it pays homage to, the spouse's name, the years during which they were the first spouse, the order of their husbands' service as president, the year of minting or issuance, In God We Trust and Liberty. Letitia and Julia Tyler were the first and second wives respectively of President John Tyler and the reverse of the five new First Spouse gold coin designs features unique designs that are emblematic of the life and work of each woman. Ed Moy, US Mint director, stated: "The First Spouse Gold Coin designs give us a glimpse into the fascinating lives of the women who supported, promoted and often advised the men who led our country." The Martin Van Buren First Spouse gold coin was launched by the US Mint on November 25th 2008 and featured a design emblematic of Liberty and themes of the president as he served without a spouse.
