Tuesday, 23rd December 2008 (1574 views) The British Museum in London has placed a gold-related items from ancient Babylon on display as part of a new exhibition.Babylon: Myth and Reality is a new show at the museum that explores the various ways in which Babylon has been imagined and re-imagined over the centuries since the 24th century BC. "The exhibition explores the continuing dialogue between the Babylon of our imagination and the historic evidence for one of the great cities of antiquity at the moment of its climax and eclipse," the British Museum states. Highlights of the Babylon: Myth and Reality collection include blue-and-gold glazed panels from ancient Babylon's processional road and a tablet that details the payment of gold to a temple by a eunuch named in the Bible. Gold jewellery and ornaments from Afghanistan have been placed on display at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, California, as part of a new exhibition curated by Fredrik Hiebert, archaeologist for the National Geographic Society.
