Tuesday, 4th November 2008 (2419 views) Several historic gold coins will go on show in Santa Clara, California, next week.The 100 Greatest US Coins exhibition will be launched at the Santa Clara Coin, Stamp & Collectibles Expo from November 13th-16th. Among its exhibits is a Ultra High Relief Double Eagle gold coin from 1907 with a denomination of $20 (£12). It is insured for $5 million and goes on display courtesy of Certified Assets Management of Wilmington, Delaware. Executive vice president of the firm Don Ketterling explained that the coin had been struck seven times to bring up all the "beautiful features". "There are less than 20 known surviving examples, and this is the finest," he added. An 1879 Flowing Hair Stella gold coin with a denomination of $4 will also be featured in the show. Recently, a UK metal-detecting enthusiast discovered a collection of nearly 6,000 gold coins in a field in the Vale of Glamorgan.
