Friday, 24th October 2008 (2411 views) Several gold items of interest were displayed and sold at a recent auction held in the US, it has been revealed.The sale, hosted by Richard D Hatch & Associates in Flat Rock, North Carolina, consisted of a wide range of pieces from several estates. A Princess Head gold coin from 1856 was sold for $825 (£529) and a 1917 McKinley gold coin went for $176. A Turkish medal containing gold was also featured and went for $1,870, while a lady's watch adorned with the precious metal commanded $880. Other timepieces that were featured included an 18-c gold fob decorated with jewels and a man's Omega Constellation piece, also in 18-c gold. Recently, a gold watch owned by Albert Einstein fetched $590,000 at an event held by Antiquorum Auctioneers. Chairman Robert Maron said: "Important timepieces continue to be extremely sought after, highly collectible, and sound tangible investments that have consistently proven to appreciate exponentially over time."
