Those who wish to purchase a Bald Eagle commemorative gold coin have been encouraged to do so soon, as the US Mint has set a deadline for orders for December 12th.

The coins, produced to celebrate the national emblem of the US - the American Bald Eagle - will cease to be sold as of 17:00, eastern time, by the organisation.

Money collected from the sale of these coins goes towards the American Eagle Foundation of Tennessee to help progress its work.

A $5 (£3.05) version of the Bald Eagle coin is still available in proof and uncirculated forms, at a cost of around $300 each.

All coins issued by the US Mint come with a certificate of authenticity.

Meanwhile, post offices in India have launched a pilot scheme, in which they will sell 24-c gold coins to the public.

More than 100 outlets will have them on offer, including in Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and the capital Delhi.
