Monday, 20th October 2008 (2436 views) An art contest has been held in order to thank an anonymous donor who dropped six Liberty gold coins into Salvation Army buckets in Denver last Christmas. This year's competition, entitled the Cool Kids Art Contest, was dedicated to the unknown benefactor, who selflessly gave away the coins which were valued at around $1,000 (£583) each. Minted between 1883 and 1906, they were analysed by US coin-grading outfit Anacs and valued by antique expert Ed McDonough from online resource WorthPoint. They will be auctioned off on October 24th and the proceeds will go towards Salvation Army community work. Will Seippel, the founder of WorthPoint, said: "There is no price tag that can be put on this unselfish act of generosity." More than 300 children submitted entries to the art contest and four winners were chosen. In the UK, the Salvation Army runs a heritage centre in London that hosts a collection of historical items relating to its worldwide charity work. The charity is a religious organisation that aims to ease human suffering.
