Monday, 13th October 2008 (2297 views) An extremely rare gold coin from 1844 is set to go on display at the Old US Mint in New Orleans. The half-ounce coin is believed to be the only one of its kind and is insured for $2.5 million (£1.4 million). It will be on show at the museum from November 1st after it reopens following a closure to allow new exhibits to be installed. An anonymous collector from Florida owns the piece but has allowed it to go on display at the mint where it was created. Local coin dealer Paul Hollins made the arrangements to bring it back to its state of origin. Commenting on its rarity, he remarked: "You will never get another one." Meanwhile, San Diego Jewellery Buyers has launched an online resource for people interested in gold items. It explains technical terms and names from within the industry, such as krugerrand, which is a South African gold coin.
