The People's Bank of China has revealed that it will issue a set of gold coins in order to commemorate the country's first spacewalk, it has been reported.

Due to be released on October 10th, the 30,000 gold coins will feature an image of the solar system on the head side and a portrait of an astronaut on the reverse, according to the Xinhua news agency.

It comes after Zhai Zhigang became the first Chinese person to walk in outer space, along with two colleagues who returned safely to Earth this weekend.

The mission was launched on Thursday September 25th and astronauts flew for 68 hours in space.

Meanwhile, a company based in the Jewellery Quarter district of Birmingham in the UK has begun making limited-edition Barack Obama gold coins.

Winston Elizabeth & Windsor hopes to make millions from the venture if Mr Obama is named as US president in the upcoming elections, reports the Birmingham Post.
