Friday, 5th September 2008 (1613 views) An antique gold ring was among seven discoveries declared as treasure by a coroner in Winchester, UK, it has been reported.The item is thought to be from the 13th or 14th century and was uncovered in the town of Littleton by Charles Barstow, said the Hampshire Chronicle. He told the paper: "I couldn't believe when it came up out of the ground how perfect it was." Other pieces included in the ruling were 111 Roman coins found on a country estate, a 14th century scabbard and a coin made into a necklace or brooch dating back to the times of Henry II. As the items were officially named as treasure, the British Museum or a local museum can buy them, with proceeds being shared between the landowner and finder, the news provider stated. Recently, a medieval gold ring was found in a field by John Stevens from Hinckley using a metal detector.
