Wednesday, 3rd September 2008 (1607 views) A gold ring is among precious items that evacuees from the latest storm to hit New Orleans refused to leave behind, it has been claimed. The Shreveport Times reported that some people who have fled from hurricane Gustav and taken refuge in the Bossier City shelter hastily brought their belongings with them. Constance Hills, a 54-year-old resident of New Orleans, told the paper how she would not leave an elegant gold ring her mother gave to her before she died a year beforehand. "We're getting used to losing things I wouldn't forget this," she added. She also made sure she had her title papers for her car, life insurance policy and some cash, the news provider said. Gustav hit Cuba on Saturday August 30th with top wind speeds of around 150 miles but began losing power as it neared the Gulf Coast.
