Roman gold coin among collectionThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Tuesday, 2nd September 2008 (1732 views) A historic collection of gold coins may be going up for sale, it has been claimed.Around 38,000 coins have been recalled by the Hispanic Society of America, allegedly in order to sell them, reported the Art Newspaper. Roman gold is included in the pieces, which are estimated to be worth a total of between $30 million and $40 million (£22.4 million). The worlds largest struck-gold coin, featuring Ferdinand V and Isabella, is said to be among the assortment, the paper stated. It added that a Hispanic Society spokesman said trustees "have decided to explore a deaccession [but] no decision has been made on going forward". However, London-based coin firm Morton & Eden and auctioneers Sotheby's have started appraising the coins, the news provider asserted. The US Mint sold 60,000 1-ounce American Eagle gold coins this August and was affected by rocketing demand, according to the Los Angeles Times.
