Monday, 1st September 2008 (2180 views) A series of daylight robberies in Mumbai saw gold ornaments taken from a number of jewellers in the space of two hours, reports Times of India. While local police believe that the crimes may have been committed by a former employee, no video footage was taken at any of the incidents, the article claims. Surendra Jain, owner of Yamuna Jewellers, tells the publication: "We closed our shop and went for lunch. "When we returned around 4pm, we found the ornaments missing." The sequence of events led to panic among members of the public who were in the area at the time. In all, more than Rs 45 lakh (£59,000) worth of jewellery was taken during the stores' lunchtime closure from 14:00 to 16:00 local time. The Times of India previously reported the arrest of a maid in Mumbai on suspicion of having stolen around Rs 2 lakh of gold jewellery from her employer.
