President gives praise to new gold coinThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Thursday, 14th August 2008 (1894 views) The president of the Professional Numismatists Guild has expressed his enthusiasm for the new 24-karat gold coin revealed by the US Mint.Gary Adkins told Numismatic News that he thought the 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle gold coin was "one of the most creative products" to have been designed and created by the mint. The coin was unveiled by the director of the US Mint, Ed Moy, at the American Numismatic Association World's Fair of Money in Baltimore. Mr Adkins said he believed the gold coin would prove to be popular amongst collectors because of its affordability. In contrast, the original Ultra High Relief gold coin from 1907 can cost upwards of $10,000 (£5,330) due to its scarcity. "The 2009-dated Ultra High Relief Double Eagle gold coins will give collectors a chance to obtain this artistic rendition at a price closer to its actual gold bullion value," he added. One side of the coin features an image of Liberty, a female figure with torch. On the reverse side is the profile of an eagle with the words United States Of America Twenty Dollars inscribed above it.
