Tuesday, 5th August 2008 (1927 views) Australia has revealed a series of commemorative coins to celebrate the 2008 Olympic Games being held in Beijing.Sally Carbon, the Australian sports commissioner and former Olympic gold medallist for hockey, unveiled the coins on Monday in Perth, reports Yahoo! news. Each of the coins were issued by the Perth Mint. One side of the coin features an image of the Olympic stadium in China's capital city. On the reverse side is a picture of the Sydney Opera House. Another coin had the picture of both a Chinese dragon and a boxing kangaroo on it. Ms Carbon said: "It's a really nice way to bring both the Australian culture and the Chinese culture together, emblazoned with the Olympic message as well, it's a lovely combination." Perth Mint has made 2008 of the gold coins which each retail at A$795 (£372). It took three months for the images to be designed before they were then approved by both the Commonwealth Treasury and the Australian Olympic Committee. The Olympics will start on August 8th.
