Wednesday, 4th June 2008 (1849 views) Castle Gold has appointed Thomas Atkins as its new president, chief executive office and director, the company has announced.The move coincides with a proposal to reorganise the gold producer's board to incorporate five independent experts, which will be put to shareholders at its annual general meeting. Mr Atkins, who holds a bachelor of science degree in geology, brings 23 years of experience in the mining industry to his new role, which includes a recent stint as president and chief executive of Crowflight Minerals. He has also previously worked in senior management positions at mineral exploration firms including Ivernia West and Boliden, and field experience as an exploration and mine geologist for Northgate Exploration and TVX Gold. Mr Atkins has further experience as an investment and corporate banker with CIBC World Markets, the Bank of Montreal and Citibank Canada. Commenting on the move, James Mark Plaxton, independent director and chairman of the company's compensation and nominating committee said: "Now is the time to appoint a president and CEO with a proven track record in investor relations, finance, human resource management, mergers and acquisitions, and overall corporate development." Castle Gold's current operations include gold projects in Mexico, Guatemala and the United States.
