Wednesday, 14th May 2008 (3711 views) A dessert featuring edible gold leaf, chocolate egg and hot chocolate sauce is among the dishes on offer at a highly-rated French restaurant at the Shangri La hotel in Abu Dhabi. The sweet, known as "chocolate extravaganza" is part of the menu at the hotel's Bord Eau restaurant, which specialises in French and Basque cuisine. A reviewer described the pudding, which also comes with chocolate ice cream, as melting into a "gooey moat of molten gorgeousness" under the hot sauce and the balmy United Arab Emirates sun. The restaurant is also praised as "one of the best al fresco dining locations" in the Gulf state for its terrace, which provides "grand vistas" over the sea to the mainland and the "towering minarets" of the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Mosque. Other dishes at the restaurant include recipes inspired by the late "chef of chefs" Auguste Escoffier, who is widely credited with popularising both French cuisine and its traditional cooking methods. Abu Dhabi is the capital and second largest city of the United Arab Emirates. Around 80 per cent of its population of one million people are expatriates.
