Friday, 2nd May 2008 (2236 views) A gold coin from Brazil has fetched the highest price at a 2,400-lot auction of currency from around the world, according to reports.The coin, which dates from 1832, sold for $40,000 (£20,117) Numismatic News stated. It added that total proceeds from the auction, held at the Chicago International Coin Fair (CICF), were over $1.39 million. Other items in the sale included a 1915 Revolution Guerrero Suriana two pesos coin from Mexico that sold for $17,000 and a 1741 eight esucdos piece that fetched $15,500. Lots from Belgium, Holland, Germany and Russia also went on the auction block, the site notes, as well as a 1658 Oliver Cromwell crown from Great Britain. The sale, which was held on April 25th and 26th, was organised in conjunction with the CICF by auction house Ponterio and Associates, a company that specialises in handling the sale of ancient and international coins and paper money.
