Diamond drilling work has started at the McMillan gold mine in Ontario, Canada, it has been confirmed.

At least five holes are planned for the campaign for a minimum distance of 1,700 metres, the site's developer Garson Gold said.

The company's earn-in partner on the project, Young-Shannon Gold Mines, will carry out the drilling programme, it added.

The aim of the work is to define possible extensions of the high-grade gold values previously encountered by drilling at the site completed between 2004 and 2007.

Intercepts from these campaigns returned gold values of 7.21 g/t gold over 21.3 metres, which included intersections of 8.12 g/t gold over 4.6 metres, 14.96 g/t gold over 8.6 metres and 22.65 g/t gold over 4.7 meres.

Additional returns were valued at 27.72 g/t gold over 3.10 metres and 35.70 g/t gold over 2.10 metres.

New targets will also be explored by the drilling programme, including an untested geophysical target down-hole from an induced polarisation survey completed in 2005 and a geophysical target located around 130 metres from historic underground mine works.

The McMillan property comprises 34 unpatented claims in the Mongowin and McKinnon townships. The area is located around 14 kilometres south of the town of Espanola on the northern shore of House Lake.

Gold exploration in the area dates back to the 1920s.
