Ancient gold artefacts go on show in VietnamWednesday, 23rd April 2008 (265 views) More than 300 artefacts including gold statues, jewellery and sacred objects are to go on display at the Vietnam History Museum in Ho Chi Minh City, it has been reported.Vietnamnet.vn states that the pieces are part of a collection of 1,140 items that were recovered by archaeologists from the Can Tien site between 1985 and 2006. Among those in the exhibition are objects of worship and ornaments that date back to between the fourth and ninth centuries. According to the site, they are believed to be the remnants of an ancient civilisation that constructed a series of temples, tombs and towers along the Dong Nai River during that time. The area that makes up modern day Vietnam has been inhabited since the Palaeolithic age, some 2.6 million years ago. Early civilisations are believed to have developed in the area during the Early Bronze Age around 2000 BC.
