Gold leaf tops $1,000 sushi rollThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Thursday, 17th April 2008 (2061 views) A New York City restaurant has launched a $1,000 (£505) per serving sushi roll that includes edible gold leaf among its ingredients, reports say.New York magazine states the grand-a-pop delicacy also includes Hudson Valley foie gras, sweet lobster, saffron and vanilla bean butter. The roll is then "encrusted" with caviar, the site says, while White Alba truffles from northern Italy are shaved onto the side and the whole thing is drizzled in 100-year-aged balsamic vinegar. It is the creation of the New York kitchen of Los Angeles-based restaurant group Koi, which describes its food as being inspired by traditional Japanese cuisine "enhanced with modern Californian accents". New York magazine had previously praised the restaurant for the "superior freshness and clarity" of its sushi dishes, which include a number of "crisp, tight, hand-cut speciality rolls". Even at $1,000 per serving, however, Koi's sushi roll has someway to go to beat the $83,500 world record for a sushi roll, which was paid in Tokyo in January 1992 for a 325-kilogram roll containing Bluefin tuna.
