Exploration uncovers gold in GhanaThursday, 17th April 2008 (519 views) Trench sampling work in Ghana has returned gold graded at three grams per tonne (g/t) over a width of 84 metres, exploration firm African Gold Group (AGG) has said.Other assay results included grades of 13.60 g/t gold over 16 metres and 6.28 g/t gold over 36 metres, the company added. Samples were taken from five trenches at the firm's Manso Atwere property. In total, the trenches covered a distance of 1,628 metres and had an average depth of three metres. Additional returns from the sampling included 62 g/t gold over two metres, 31.20 over four metres and 7.20 g/t gold over eight metres. There were also values of 0.80 g/t gold over 22 metres and 0.92 g/t gold over 22 metres. Diamond drilling is now underway at the site to further define its gold mineralisation. A total of 13 holes will be completed, AGG said, to an overall depth of 2,500 metres. Ghana, formerly the Gold Coast, has a long history of gold mining and is the second-largest producer of the yellow metal in Africa. In 1992, the country's gold output passed one million ounces.
