Gold explorer 'identifies new zones'Tuesday, 15th April 2008 (449 views) New zones of gold mineralisation have been discovered at the Plomo property in the state of Sonora, Mexico, according to reports.Exploration firm Cangold said the zones, which were found using mapping and sampling, have extended the property's prospective area of mineralisation to five kilometres long by three kilometres wide. The first new area is located between the geological structures designated as Pavorreal and San Perfecto. Sampling along this 600-metre trend returned gold values of 10.8 g/t and 5.82 g/t over two metres. Meanwhile, the second zone - named Culebra - has returned rock sample results of 4.28 g/t gold over 0.85 metres and 0.93 g/t gold over three metres. The structure has also been mapped for 800 metres in length and up to 300 metres in width. Following up on these results, Cangold plans to start a 1,500-metre diamond drilling programme to target the Pavorreal and San Perfecto zones. The nine-hole exploration campaign will also investigate the property's Banco de Oro and Bonancita zones, the company said. The Plomo project is located in the north-west Altar Desert of Mexico. It hosts the La Herradura deposit, which is believed to contain over 104 million tonnes graded at 0.84 g/t gold.
